Being lucky enough to travel halfway around the world to a new destination can be an amazing experience, however, some people do worry about the stopover that often comes with this and the thought of being in an unfamiliar airport is often considered to be the worst part of the journey. Without wanting to dip into your holiday spending find too much, people often find themselves without anything to do, especially when you find yourself stranded in an airport that’s miles from the nearest city centre. If you need to stretch your legs, you can run or swim but if you just want to relax, why not head to the sauna. If you’re an Emirates passenger and you’ve got a wait of 3 hours or more, make sure you make the most of your free meal at the Safar restaurant. If you feel like venturing out a little further, you can get the Dubai Metro to the city centre a few miles out.

If you feel like becoming one with the world, head to the meditation room to relax, or if you have some reading to catch up on, head over to the library. There is also an aviation museum and a number of exhibits that change as often as the seasons do.

If you’ve a got a while to spare, why not head downtown about 10 miles to the famous Golden Gates. Fisherman’s Wharf is a popular area with the locals and can also be found in downtown San Francisco. There is a variety of shopping and food options and if you have the time, why not fit in a work out in the Sheraton Fitness and Spa, also another 24 hour gym.

For just a 20 minute journey you can find yourself in central. Once there you can visit the old historic area that used to be Amsterdam’s busiest district. Throughout the city are plenty of canals and amazing architecture that will be enough to keep you entertained if you are on a tight budget. The areas of The Leidseplein and The Rembrandtplein are top areas worth a visit and if you’ve got some cash to spare, why not see the city from the water in a luxury canal boat tour or even visit the rest of the exhibits housed at the Rijksmuseum.
